Make-up For Dark Complexions
May 30, 2008
Slowly, over the years beauty standards have changed, evolving to include a variety of skin tones and features. A peaches and cream complexion is no longer the criterion to judge beauty against. Manufacturers of beauty products have begun to cater to a large segment of women blessed with warm to dark skin tones.
The best advantage of a make-up application for dark skin is that is less prone to pimples, blackheads, spots and shadows / pigmentation than a fair complexion. It is far easier for dark skinned people to achieve a healthy glowing complexion, since dark skin tends to be more even-toned skin and makes a ready base for blending foundation. If, you have discolorations or dark eye circles dab some concealor to hide them before applying foundation.
A liquid foundation is best for dark skins as they tend to have more of a shine. It is most vital you choose the right kind of foundation that suits your skin tone perfectly. Choose one that is an exact match for your skin tone or is lighter by half a shade. For a professional look, use two shades, light for forehead, nose and cheeks, dark for the rest of the face. Go for golden, orange or apricot shades for a fresh radiant look. Go for variations of beige with a light reflecting shimmer, peach for a healthy glow and golden ochre for illuminating the face. Avoid yellowish or dark foundation.
For powder dust golden shimmer on top of foundation for a dazzling glow, or beige / ivory for adding light, or rose or pink for a romantic look. For glamour apply illuminating powder on top of base to catch the light and exude radiance.
Not only is dark skin is beautiful, the greatest asset about it is its ability to pull off any colour. Bright colours flatter it best, while light colours will more than likely not show up with the exception of the colour white. Beautiful bright eye shadow colours like purple, teal, or sapphire blue, deep colours like dark gray and chocolate brown look great on dark skin tones. To accent the eyes apply black Kohl or a bright colour that matches the eye shadow used. Use white or gold highlighter on brow bone and inner corners of the eyes and finish off with black mascara.
Apply blusher in shades of bronze for caramel skin, bright rose for chocolate colored skin, or an orange based shade for very dark skin.
Finish your look with a bright or nude colour lip gloss. Reds, red-browns, roses, and bright pinks are the best colours for dark skin.
