Love and Lust – What Is The Difference
July 2, 2008
When you see someone that catches your eye and you would like to be with that person, do you have feelings of love for them or a feeling of lust?
Yes, it is not impossible to fall in love with a person you have seen for the first time but how can you tell if it is love or lust. The feelings for that person can be both ways and the love part may grow over time or the lust part may grow over time.
If the love part of your feeling towards the person of interest grows overtime, then you must really love that person, even when they become sick or disabled. If the lust part of your feelings grows over time, then your attitude and feelings can change quickly when the thing or things that attracted you to that person disappears or lessens.
For an example of a person having true feelings of love towards their lover or spouse; let us say that the person that whom you love suddenly was seriously hurt in a auto accident and became paralyzed from the neck or waist down and was unable to work or take care of himself or herself without assistance and you stuck by them and helped them all you could, then that would be considered true love.
Now, for an example of a person having feelings of lust towards their lover or spouse, let us say the person that is the object of the attraction somehow and someway, lost the thing or things that the admirer was attracted to and the admirer left the object of the admiration because of that, so that would be considered love out of lust and desire.
That is the difference between love and lust for a person. Love is pure, genuine and will not easily fall apart but lust is fake, not genuine, and will easily fall apart when either another attraction better than the last one appears or when the source of the attraction disappears.
Is it better to love or lust? In the Bible, Paul says that it is best to marry a person rather than to burn in passion, or lust, for them. That is true, since lust is the main reasons for the end of many relationships.
When a partner of a relationship cheats on another partners of a relationship with another person, but does not love them, that is lust but if the person or persons who are doing the cheating love both their lover and the significant other, that is also lust, since one cannot love both partners with their hearts. They must either love one of the lovers and hate the other or hate both partners and love himself or herself.
So what is the real difference between love and lust? It is possible to do both at the same time but the real question is which of those two feelings will grow over time? The real answer lies in the hearts and souls of those who want and those who need.
