Unfortunately, most men don’t even think about getting a regular check-up or even having a family physician. Don’t wait until you’re married for your wife to choose a doctor for you. We don’t think about family heredity or our blood pressure on a daily basis.
As we age, things such as colon or prostate cancer, high blood pressure or our cholesterol level should start to become a concern and should have regular check ups. Also remember that your family history can play a role in your health.
You need to start watching your health at a young age and not wait until you turn the ripe old age of 30 something to see a doctor. Longevity may not be a factor if there is a problem hiding in the dark from you. We tend not to pay attention to what is unseen but unfortunately that can be the most harmful.
A check up with your physician will probably take about 45 minutes and consist of various parts of the physical. They will check your blood pressure, cholesterol level, height and weight. You will also get checked for standard types of cancer such as thyroid, mouth, skin, testicles and lymph nodes. Don’t forget not to leave out the dental exam at the dentist. You also need to get a tetanus-diptheria shot. Not all of these exams and test will be performed every time you visit the doctor but should be performed when needed.
When you are visiting with your physician, be sure to go over any concerns that you may have. Even though something may seem very small to you in terms of your health, your doctor may feel that it is something worth looking into. No matter how large or small the issue, be sure to have a discussion.
Remember gentleman, regular visits to your doctor for check ups and physicals are very important to your health. They are also important so that you do not transmit anything unknown to an unsuspecting girlfriend. You are not only protecting yourself but the ones that you love.
