Ahhh, sounds like a great combination doesn’t it? It brings to mind the wonderful taste of chocolate with the addition of creamy, rich liquors, creating a decadent experience for the taste buds. Chocolate liquor is a delicate process of using cocoa beans, alcohol and various sweeteners that create a nirvana of chocolate bliss. They are available in boxes of chocolates in assorted varieties and flavors.
There are different types of liquor filled chocolates, as there are different kinds of liquors that fill them. Five basic types are most commonly available:
1. Chocolate Liquor – this is produced by grinding the cocoa beans into a smooth, liquefied state. Then it is cooled, molded into blocks and becomes a whopping 53% combination of cocoa butter.
2. Semi-sweet Chocolate liquor – this is chocolate liquor that has been sweetened by cocoa butter and other sweeteners. It is more commonly known as dark chocolate liquor. It contains at least 35% chocolate liquor.
3. Milk chocolate liquor – this is a combination of cocoa butter, milk, sweeteners and other flavorings that are all added to the liquor. This type is great for using as garnishes, and coatings for some of your favorite candies. Milk chocolate liquors contain at least 10% liquor.
4. Sweet Chocolate liquor – this kind of chocolate liquor contains more sweeteners than the other kinds, and at least 15% liquor. Because of its sweet taste, it is used commonly as garnishing and decorating purposes. It works well as decorative icing on desserts.
5. White chocolate liquor – this contains cocoa butter, but is less fat in nature. It is most often used as a coating on candies and desserts and is sweet to the taste.
There are also chocolate flavored liquors available in most bottle shops, that are very rich and most often used in mixing cocktails, such as the chocolate martini. Whatever your personal preference, you should note that these chocolate liquors are good for the taste buds, but not necessarily for the waist line. But if you are looking to entertain, and need a good companion for you dinner party, try having a variety of liquor chocolates available with wine for your guests.
