Laser treatment for acne
July 1, 2009
Getting rid of acne scars can be difficult, but laser therapy is proving to one of today’s most effective solution for banishing pimples and acne scars.
“Laser” stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, and lasers are becoming popular for many health treatments. Although the procedure is still expensive at this stage of development, it is one of the most accurate and effective treatments invented thus far to reduce unwanted hair, removal of tattoos and treating acne.
Acne and scar removal treatments are relatively painless. Qualified physicians and medical staff should carry out the treatment, in which acne-producing germs are killed with the use of radiations and the growth of the oil-producing glands is shrunk.
Then laser resurfacing helps get rid of scar tissue from acne. The damaged tissue is removed, and collagen fiber in the skin is tightened to close up pockmarks. Cooling sprays keep the skin hydrated during the process.
Acne treatment by laser takes 15-20 minutes each session, usually for eight to 15 sessions, depending upon the patient’s skin type and the problem’s severity. The treatment also requires a gap of a few days to a few weeks to give the skin time to recover between sessions.
One of the benefits of acne treatment by laser is that it relieves the patient from having to take daily medication and/or apply ointments to treat acne.
Laser treatment also has fewer side effects than other acne treatments; however, temporary redness, irritation or swelling of the treated areas can occur. These effects usually go away within 24 hours at the most.
Cosmetic laser resurfacing also is used now to reduce the aging effects of the skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. Laser radiation can even remove a permanent tattoo, detaching pigments from the skin and thus allowing them to be sloughed off with dead skin cells.
If this treatment sounds good to you, then prepare wisely. Talk with your doctor or dermatologist to get the full information on available treatments and, which one may be right for your condition.
If possible, talk with people who’ve had this kind of treatment you’re considering and ask them about their experience with it. Above all, observe all the instructions and safety precautions given to you by your doctor regarding the laser treatment you choose.
