Junoon Band to rock Kashmir

Junoon that means the obsession in Urdu, belts out rock tunes driven by Sufism, a mystical branch of Islam, and social issues is now ready to rock Kashmir. Strife-torn Indian Kashmir is now ready to step up with the beats of music and not the blasts on Sunday as Pakistan’s renowned band Junoon will held the biggest musical concert in the region in about two decades in a bid for peace.

Junoon, arguably one of South Asia’s happening rock bands, will play on Sunday on the banks of Dal Lake with hulking snow-capped Himalayan crests and ancient Sufi shrines as its landscape. The band is expecting 5,000 to 10,000 people and this is supposed to be a mega-event as stated by rocksters. Furthermore, the president Pratibha Patil, scheduled to be on a three-day tour to Kashmir on Friday, is also anticipated to attend the show.

As stated by Prasad Rao, whose non-governmental South Asia Foundation (SAF) is organizing the event, the concert is all about peace in the region.
