Joblessness Makes Men Hopeless
June 20, 2008
When a man loses his job, it is the worst thing that could happen to him, as joblessness leads to hopelessness. Take the example of Luis Vega, an electrical engineer who lost his job three months back. Soon afer, he began to avoid the networking scene and when he hadn’t been called for a single interview, he began to lose his conversational skills. Down in the dumps, he had difficulty keeping his spirits up as browsing the net for career opportunities he found job hunt tips did not seem to work. His joblessness problems only seemed to grow!
A familiar story, we have seen many trying to cope with the hopelessness of long-term unemployment. We have seen many jobless men and women isolate themselves while grieving for lost jobs, struggling to put their egos aside, and finally show a willingness to seek expert advice and try new strategies.
Talking to other unemployed, there runs a common thread through all their stories of health insurance running out, bills piling up, etc. Many of the jobless now look forward to meeting other people in similar situations to exchange not just job hunt tips, but emotional support as well. Career paths are reassessed, life simplified by exchanging larger apartments for smaller ones, taking on roommates to combat the money crunch and other effects of losing one’s job.
Joblessness is a psychological disaster for the unemployed and their families, with many men resorting to anger, as anxiety and hopelessness sweep over them. But, there is no reason why unemployed men should feel hopeless about the situation. They must learn not to depend on anyone but themselves for their career development. They should consistently be on the look out for career opportunities, and if no job is forthcoming, another alternative is to consider self-employment.
There is no need to lose hope when one loses one’s job. Looking in the right place at the right time, often results in job if not the dream job. So, jobless men should quit feeling sorry of themselves, stop their self-esteem from eroding, stop feeling so hopeless about the situation. What they need to do is to get out there and strut their stuff to impress a waiting audience! What is so hopeless about losing one’s job, there are many others waiting for you to find the right one!
