Irregular sleeping linked to obesity, smoking
ATLANTA (AP) — According to the recent surveys conducted that people who sleep less than 6 hours or people who sleep more than 9 hours are more likely to get obese. This survey was being conducted by a government body. This is the first time that leads to the establishment of a relation between sleep and body’s basic metabolism.
This survey also connected to the sleepers to higher smoking rates, less physical activity and more alcohol use.
“The research adds weight to a stream of studies that have found obesity and other health problems in those who don’t get proper shuteye,” said Dr. Ron Kramer.
“The data is all coming together that short sleepers and long sleepers don’t do so well,” Kramer commented.
The study released is based on door to door surveys conducted of 87,000 U.S. individuals from year 2004 through the year 2006 conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics, part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
