Most men get excited when it comes to talking about sex. This is one topic that always seems to create an interesting conversation. However, the same is not true when it comes to talking about your prostate. There is little that men know about this very important part of their body. Therefore, there is little they do to protect it or maintain its health. Only when someone they know or hold dear becomes victim to something like prostate cancer, they stir up and become concerned.
However, you do not need to wait for any such unfortunate event to occur before you start paying attention. Some important information about your prostate is given in this article.
It is a gland
The first thing to clear up is that the prostate is not your penis. Prostate is a gland the size of a walnut located at the base of the urethra and bladder in males. It has three lobes and it undergoes two growth phases, one during puberty and the other, the more problematic one, around the age of 45-55.
It secretes a slightly alkaline fluid that nourishes the sperm. Most of the fluid that comes out during ejaculation is prostatic fluid.
Reason for concern
The prostate is near the urinary bladder. So if it is infected then it will cause impediment to the normal flow of urine. This can be dangerous. Generally, two conditions affect the prostate, BPH and prostate cancer.
BPH or Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy means a non cancerous prostate enlargement. Prostate cancer involves the uncontrolled growth of cells, which also causes enlargement. However, only a doctor can tell the difference.
Causes of prostate problems
Genetic history, lifestyle choices, hormones and age can be causes of prostate cancer. There is also evidence of some viral trigger in the environment that can cause this unhealthy growth. However, it is still a question as to the exact causes of this problem.
Precautions
Looking at the causes of the problem, you can do accordingly to stay away from BPH and prostate cancer. A healthy lifestyle including regular exercise and a balanced diet can reduce your risk of developing this cancer. You should also stay away from the nitrates and nitrites that are present in preserved food.
Here is something that you will love to do. It is advisable that every male over 35 should have at least two or three intimate sessions each week. This will keep the prostate flushed and active and hence, problem free.
Therefore, enjoy your life and keep the things mentioned afore in mind.
