How to Style Curly Hair
Unless you are Shirley Temple, or trying to recreate her image, you are probably constantly searching for a way to style your unruly locks. Curly hair can be frustrating when no matter what you seem to try to do with it, it always looks the same. In humid conditions it seems to always be frizzy, and when you try to straighten it, you look like you stepped out of a 80’s commercial for hair crimping irons.
But, there is hope! Although having curly hair can have its downside, you should also revel in the idea that your hair has more volume, bounce and texture than those that are stuck with straight hair. In addition, there are a lot of options thanks to upgrades and improvements in hair care products and styling tools, that can help you create a look that is flattering and that you will be proud of to show off your curly locks.
There are a lot of products on the market recently that can help tame your frizzy curls, and turn them into smooth, flowing waves. Frizz reducing creams and treatments can be worked into the hair after shampooing and before drying or styling hair. Applying a frizz reducing product helps seal the hair follicles and creates a smoother appearance. When blow drying your hair, you should consider using a diffuser that attaches to the blow dryer and can help eliminate the intense hot heat that makes your curls appear dry.
When styling, use a mousse and gently work through your hair, especially at the ends where hair tends to appear most dry. If you want to straighten your hair, after drying apply a small amount of smoothing product through your hair and part it into sections. Straighten only one section at a time and re-apply the smoothing product if you need to. Secure the parts of your hair that are not currently being straightened back and take one part at a time to straighten.
After you get the desired look, apply a light mist of hairspray to keep in place, and you may want to consider applying a shine spray to your hair. Shine spray will help give your hair a healthy look.
