How to stay cool during your summer pregnancy
April 27, 2009
The hot summer months may be the most difficult time for expectant mothers. That beautiful “pregnancy glow” is hard to hold onto when you are sweaty, listless, and tired from the summer heat. Below are a few pampering treatments you can employ to recapture the glow and stay cool.
Scrub your body cool with an invigorating Brown Sugar Scrub
First, collect the following ingredients:
1 ½ cups of brown sugar
½ cup of jojoba oil
¼ cup of liquid soap
1 tablespoon of honey
Pour the brown sugar in a bowl. Add the honey, jojoba oil, and liquid soap. Stir these ingredients together thoroughly to make a scrub.
Start with a dry bathtub and a warm room. Place dry towels on the floor of the bathtub and lower yourself onto them. Rub the Brown Sugar Scrub all over your body; starting at your neck and ending with your toes (don’t apply it to the face).
Once you have finished, remove the towels and rinse your body with warm water to remove the scrub mixture. Take care once the oil hits the bathtub because it will be slippery. Once you have dried off, moisturize your skin.
To wax or not to wax?
Waxing is not harmful to pregnant women, so if you are anxious to hit the beach or pool in your cute maternity swimsuit go ahead and do it if you want.
Of course, it makes more sense for you to hire a professional to do the waxing in your current condition. Make sure you retain the services of an individual who has experience working with pregnant women.
Decide how much hair you want removed and what type of procedure you want to use. Remember that blood flow increases during pregnancy so your pain tolerance may not be as high as normal. Be sure to let the technician know that you are pregnant.
Balancing the mask of pregnancy with the Pumpkin & Papaya Mask
Some women develop a “mask”, or facial markings, during pregnancy. It is also referred to as chloasma, or facial discoloration. Extra care must be taken during the summer months because tanning the face can worsen the discoloration. To help your natural glow come through, try the following exfoliating treatment. Gather the following ingredients:
½ fresh Papaya
One egg white
1 can of pumpkin (15 oz)
1 tsp of honey
First, remove the papaya seeds, scoop the fruit out of its peel, and mash it up in a bowl. In a second bowl, beat the egg white. Mix the egg white and papaya together. Add the pumpkin and honey to the mixture. Stir all ingredients thoroughly and apply to the face. Let it sit on the area for 10 minutes, then rinse.
Get a relaxing pedicure
Pedicures are good for your soul and your toes! They are a pleasant, indulgent way to treat you to something special. Be aware of salon odors which can make you nauseous. Try to sit near an open window or, if possible, secure the first morning appointment (before the odors have time to accumulate).
