How To Spend A Lazy Day
July 24, 2008
Knowing how to spend a lazy day is a decided art form. And, no one knew it better than Omar Khayyam when he wrote: “A jug of wine, a loaf of bread and thou beside me!” Read on for some lazy day tips and let’s begin with Omar Khayyam’s best tip.
So, how about going on a romantic picnic with a special someone just to show how much you enjoy their company, whether you are just beginning a relationship, or been married for yonkers.
Pick the venue in advance, a place you’re certain you will be alone without unwanted intrusions e.g. sharing your picnic spot with a herd of cows or sheep, a plague of mosquitoes and midges, or just a crowd people picking fruit! If, there are small children, you can’t escape from; why not picnic at the bottom of your garden. Just put up a canopy and an Out of Bounds sign, for them to understand you don’t want to be disturbed. Else, if children aren’t a problem, choose a hidden recess with a nice view, the sound of running water and a nice shady tree to spread out the picnic under.
Or else, sling up the hammock, set up a table you can reach easily from the hammock and load it with goodies to nibble on. How about some champagne, a steaming flask of soup and fresh baguettes stuffed with figs, blue cheese and honey, sausages, wrapped in foil and still warm, ready to dip in a spicy salsa, some olives, a vegetable dip or two, with crudités, some pâté, thin slices of prosciutto or Parma ham, sliced sausage, prawns, smoked salmon, anchovy fillets and other tidbits if you wish. Don’t forget the chocolate or a crisp apple or pear, even a handful of bright red cherries. Is there a better way of spending a lazy day swinging lazily in a hammock, reading a book that has you riveted as you nibble your way through your goodies while enjoying the sun on your skin and the breeze in your hair?
How about a lazy bike ride along the river, with a picnic basket of course, to stop wherever it suits you to refresh yourself and eat your lunch. Or, a nice leisurely walk in the park with a friends and family, to play a game of basketball or just spend the afternoon together, enjoying the lovely weather and a lick of your favourite ice-creams.
For those who love cooking, a barbecue sounds like fun, and the mall will do very nicely for the shopoholics! Or, spend a lazy day floating down the river on a raft with a picnic basket full of goodies and beer to quench your thirst.
There are so many options on how to spend a lazy day; one just has to use one’s imagination and what appeals to you! As for me, I know how to make each day of my life, an interesting, lazy day!
