How to Remove Skin Tags

Skin tags are little tabs, or tags, of skin that seem to appear out of nowhere. People usually develop skin tags on an area of the body where the skin is wrinkled or sags.
The appearance of a skin tag doesn’t mean that there is something medically wrong with you. All they really are is a cosmetic problem. If the sight of one doesn’t bother you, then you don’t have to do anything about it. If you are offended by the sight of a skin tag, it is easy to remove.
What are Skin Tags?
No one really understands why skin tags appear. Some dermatologists think that they are a result of the skin chafing. Other people think that they could be a sign of insulin resistance, while others think that they could be the result of Human Papilloma Virus.
What we do know is that skin tags usually start to appear when a person reaches middle age, and that they are usually between 1mm and 5mm in size.
Ways to Remove the Skin Tag
Some people decide that the easiest way to remove a skin tag is to simply cut it off. Although it’s best to have a doctor do the cutting, if you simply can’t see the point of going to the doctor to cut your skin tag, you can sterilize a pair of nail clippers or scissors and just start snipping. Make sure you have a cotton ball to press against the spot where the skin tag used to be to stop the bleeding. When the amputation site has stopped bleeding, you should put some antibiotic cream on the injury.
If the idea of amputating the skin tag makes you queasy, you can take a piece of thread and loop it around the bottom of the skin tag. Pull the string as tight as possible and tie it in a knot. The string will cut off the blood supply. Without blood, the skin tag will fall off after a day or two.
If you prefer to seek the assistance of a professional to deal with your skin tags, you can talk to your doctor. Most doctors will offer you a variety of options to remove your skin tag. You can choose to have the skin tag cauterized or removed with a laser, or electro surgery is also an effective way to remove a skin tag.
