The Iraqi war, potential terrorism, unstable economy, rising prices, businesses closing down, more home foreclosures, people going broke, marriage problems, and worse all lead to loss of confidence and greater anxiety. There is a hopeless feeling that there is no escape from anxieties that overwhelm us. Anxieties about our future, career, family, loved ones that destroy our mental peace.
Before we can reduce anxiety, we must also know how to diagnose its symptoms. For example if you tend to worry about everything, big things, little things, imaginary things. We are scared of making mistakes, find it hard to make decisions, feel nervous for no reason, feel dizzy or weak or tired, always imagine the worst, the body is tense, suffer from insomnia or sleep poorly. Then you can be sure you are suffering from anxiety.
The moment most people realize they suffer from anxiety, they head to the doctor to get a prescription for some anti-anxiety medication. While, you may feel calmer after a few weeks, but think of the chemicals added to your body, think of their side effects. This is not how to get rid of anxiety as you only add another anxiety to your already long list of anxieties.
Nor is a visit to local bar or liquor cabinet to down a drink or two to help feel calm, the best solution to your problem. Alcohol comes with is own dangers of alcoholism, liver damage, hangovers and worse.
How To Reduce Anxiety
The only way to get rid of anxiety is to change your lifestyle and cut out the stress from your life. If, news in the papers or on television cause you anxiety about the future, stop reading newspapers and news magazines, read an interesting book, instead, or watch an upbeat show on TV, or go for a long walk. Avoid people with sad stories; instead spend time with people who are upbeat and cheerful. Soon, you will find other things that interest you, you will being to eat and sleep better, laugh more easily, feel less afraid, much more healthier and calmer.
Get rid of loneliness and the anxiety of being unwanted by other by building up a social network of friends. If, you don’t know where to begin or are too shy, just get on the Internet and make some friends online.
Learn Yoga or breathing exercises to reduce anxiety. Get out and exercise, begin a healthy diet, get plenty of rest, don’t take things too seriously, rather develop a sense of humour. Soon you will have reduced anxiety and learnt to be more confident and happy about your life and the direction it is taking!
