How to Prevent Food Poisoning
Refrigerators in the kitchen are a blessing for every household. But be aware that food poisoning can occur if these appliances are not used properly. With refrigerators in homes, people have become careless in the storage of food. It is a common assumption that once the food goes in the refrigerator, it cannot become spoiled. As a result there has been an increase in cases of food poisoning. If you want to avoid this disaster in your house, then you need to be extra cautious when storing food at home.
Here are some tips you can use to keep your food items fresh:
When you shop for meat items, keep them in a separate section in the cart. Don’t keep the meat alongside the other food items. This is because the bacteria from the animals remains in the meat, and if not handled with care, they will flourish. When storing the meat in the refrigerator, store it in a separate section.
Always wash hands and utensils with soap and hot water before and after they are in contact with the meat products.
Clean the utensils properly before using them. A large number of food poisoning cases are due to unhygienic dishes. Rewash the plates before placing them on the table.
Cook meat products at the recommended temperature and for the right amount of time so that the bacteria can be destroyed. Never cook between 32 degrees to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, as this is the range where bacteria multiply. Freeze the leftover food or keep it warm in the oven. If the food is left over at room temperature for more than an hour, then discard it immediately.
Look out for blue and green color on the food. These colors are deadly fungus. Most dairy products are prone to this harmful fungus. Bread, fruits and vegetables are also prone to fungus and that can lead to food poisoning. It’s recommended not to store food for too long a period of time.
Cans of food which are swollen or puffed-out should be avoided.
Always wash the leafy vegetables properly before eating as they carry larvae of dangerous worms.
Make it a point to eat fresh and properly-cooked food to stay healthy and avoid food poisoning.
