Normally skin sheds dead cells at 24 days intervals, but when the scalp continually sheds dead cells from the skin, you have the condition called dandruff. The condition is caused by a fungus which resembles yeast. While dandruff can occur even in children, it is mostly teenagers and adults who suffer from this condition. For mild conditions of dandruff you don’t require anything more than a gentle shampoo. If the flakes are stubborn you can remove them with medicated shampoos.
The symptoms of dandruff include an itching sensation in the scalp, annoying and persistent flaking of skin on your scalp, and continuous shedding of the flakes. When there is abnormal flaking, it may be due to some other condition in your body. Sometimes the symptoms include reddishness of the scalp and irritated feeling around the head. While one can understand the normal flaking of dead skin cells, you get concerned with the abnormal flaking on the scalp. The condition however can be treated with shampoos and natural remedies.
The symptoms of dandruff are the shedding of skin from the scalp, seen through the appearance of white flakes which fall on your neck, head, and shoulders. The symptoms take the form of clumps of dead skin cells, when you have oily skin, which is not a harmful, but annoying condition.
Dandruff results from general unhealthy conditions of the body caused by an unhealthy diet, constipation, and infections. Sometimes it is caused by pityrosporum-ovl, a microorganism resident of the scalp. When you have oily skin, this condition may manifest itself. Other causes of dandruff are emotional stress and using harsh shampoos.
Dandruff can be noticed through symptoms like excess flakes from the scalp, itching sensation, and the scalp becoming either oilier or drier. In serious cases, dandruff flakes clump together and form into crusts on your scalp.
Though in itself dandruff should not bother you, it becomes embarrassing when someone notices the flakes falling on your shoulders, and they try to flick them away. Itching is another embarrassment which the condition causes. Avoid harsh shampoos and maintain good health conditions through a proper diet.
