How To Perk Up Your Home
September 3, 2008
Is your home looking drab? Well, with these simple tips, you can transform your home from drab to dashing, without burning a hole in your pocket.
Closet Reorganisation
If, your closet looks like it has been hit by a typhoon, spend a few hours and reorganise it. Chances are, in the clean out, you will know where your Manolo Blahnik stilettos or Versace cocktail dress went.
How To Do It
Items that are used on a daily basis like t-shirts, office clothes and jeans should be kept handy i.e. on the lower shelf of your closet where they will be accessible at all times.
Winter clothes and woollens should be stored on higher shelves, wrapped in muslin cloth and moth balls or dried Neem leaves for protection.
Why, not use unused Tupperware or regular plastic boxes from the kitchen to store your socks, stockings and other hosiery. A masala box with multiple small katoris works well for clips and jewellery.
Breaking The All Beige Code
I’m, sure the urge to dress your walls in a different shade of colour must have struck you every now and then! However, if all your walls are already painted beige, there are still ways to liven up your home.
How To Do It
Make a neutral room look warm and inviting by adding splashes of bright red or orange furnishings and upholstery. Furnishings that stand out sharply against the wall colour will also help define the space. Draw attention away from neutral toned walls by scattering colourful vases, rugs, throws and cushions throughout the house.
Bust The Clutter With Wicker Baskets
If, your house looks more cluttered than inviting, you need to tidy up the situation.
How To Do It
Wicker baskets are the perfect solution to your clutter problem. They not only look trendy and fashionable, they are also useful for storing magazines, papers, toys and laundry. You can also use them to hold out of season clothes in your closet.
For a more colourful and cheaper twist, bright plastic bins in fuchsia or red come in handy.
Streamline Your Bathroom
If, your bathroom is small, high in humidity, you need to organise the chaos.
How To Do It
Don’t waste your money on a fancy solution; simply scout the house for pottery bowls, silver platters, baskets, tins, glassware. Arrange items in containers by type i.e. hair products, cosmetics, towels, etc.
Other ways are to bring the garden inside. Add freshness with a variety of indoor plants displayed attractively in terracotta pots. Keep up with the trends, changing your décor on a regular basis by injecting splashes of the latest trend in colours through accessories, such as, cushions. Optimise space by creating storage areas in passages and other forgotten places like staircases.
