Two head or eye pins, the latter has loops at the bottom for dangling bead drops or charms from. On the other hand head pins have a flat or tipped bottom to keep the beads from falling off.
Now select the fun supply i.e. the beads. Pick out shapes and sizes that you’d love to wear in colours to match your outfit. However, ensure the holes of the beads are neither too big nor too small for your headpins.
The tools you will need to fashion your beaded earrings consist of a wire cutter, chain nose pliers and round nose pliers. As far as wire cutters are concerned, get a flush cutter that cuts one side flat. You will find when making beaded earrings, a decent cutter is worth every penny spent. These don’t last long; you would be better off picking up a decent set of tools from a bead or jewellery supplier instead.
How to Bead Earrings
Drop earrings are the easiest earrings to make. Go classy with semi-precious stones on silver wire or go funky by adding charms and beads. What you require for a basic set of earrings are 2 head or eye pins, 2 ear wires, beads of choice, round nose pliers. Spacer beads, small metal coloured beads that frame the other beads are very useful in the making of beaded earrings. If, no headpins are available, simply bend the end of a regular wire in to a loop to make your own eye pins.
Now, take a headpin of the required size and thickness. String the beads on the headpin wire. After stringing the beads, use the round nosed pliers to bend he headpin at a 90 degrees angle. Finish loop by bending the end of head pin over to the complete loop, and you are done. Experiment with different beads for different looks. Try adding several drops to one earring by attaching them to a charm or wire structure. Or, add a charm to the bottom of a drop earring.
Once you get the hang of it, get creative and make the prettiest pair of beaded earrings to be found!
