July 24, 2008
Extremely easy to assemble, stunning to look at gift baskets are a true labour of love, less of labour and more of love. Whatever the occasion, be it a birthday, anniversary, Christmas, New Year’s or Diwali, unique gift baskets are highly suitable, often the best and only solution when it is difficult to decide what to gift. Use different basket shapes, with or without handles, and of a size that depends on what you wish to put in them.
Before setting out to make a gift basket, decide the theme you are going to go with, then decide on the size you require, including purchasing items to fill it with.
Next cut 2-yds of cellophane, lay it on the table right side down, and place the basket in the middle.
Time now to arrange all the gift items inside the basket after placing a cloth napkin or paper doily at the bottom. Breakable items should be protected by wrapping them in cloth or tissue to prevent any breakages. Tall items should be placed in the centre, medium items on the outside, and smaller ones wedged between the tall and the medium items. Sprinkle individually-wrapped candy amongst the items to add a nice sweet touch.
Now, gather up the cellophane, pull the short sides up first, then the longer ones, and secure with a long twist tie. You might need someone to help you while tying the cellophane.
Cover the twist tie with ribbon made into a nice bow with long curving tails. Or else, attach a ready-made bow without removing the twist tie.
Attach a gift tag with string or tape it to the front cellophane.
Tips:
Use clear, coloured, print or festive cellophane. Clear with small patterns is very versatile for any occasion.
Take the hassle out of making bows with ready-made ones, picking according the size of the basket i.e. large bows for large baskets, likewise a small basket should not be hidden due to an oversized bow.
Instead of a basket, you can use a casserole dish, pie plate, serving bowl, or gift box bottom to hold your gift goodies.

Basket, cellophane (a roll or at least 1.5 to 2 yds or metres), 2-3 Yds of wired ribbon or a ready-made bow, gift tag with string to attach, twist tie, or rubber band to gather the wrapping, gift items for the basket, a bag of individually wrapped candy.
