How To Keep Your Skin Looking Beautiful
August 7, 2008
Not everyone is born beautiful, but if you have been naturally gifted with beautiful skin, it is a definite bonus. A living organism, our skin needs extra special care to stay looking its healthy best.
Whatever, the condition of your skin i.e. healthy or problematic, whether you are young or mature, it is essential to establish a basic ritual of facial skin care and to stick to, if you want it to work wonders for your skin.
There are many of us who have on numerous occasions committed a facial skin faux pas of going to bed without removing our makeup. As you know, makeup clogs our pores, and to wear it all day long and then at night as well, means that you are causing more damage that if you removed every vestige of makeup before going to bed. As it is even non-pore clogging products are not designed to be worn 24-hours. As mentioned before, our skin is a living organism like us and needs time to breathe and regenerate, which cells prefer to do when we are asleep. This, it means it is vital that we remove the dust, grime and makeup from our face and then supply it with a moisture boost.
Start your face cleansing ritual with a gentle cleanser suitable for your type of skin. Foaming cleansers are best avoided as they tend to contain harsh detergents. Those with oily skins should make it a habit to use a toner and apply moisturiser containing anti-oxidants, such as, Vitamin C.
If, you don’t wish to spend ages washing, cleaning off make-up, toning and moisturizing, why not use disposable makeup remover wipes that usually cleanse, tone and moisture all in one go. However, it would be best to follow up with a night-time moisturiser after wiping off your makeup.
Once you have established a simple skincare regime, buy products formulated for skin issues that plague you. If, you have dull skin, go in for a sludge-busting alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) moisturiser or cleanser. Or else, reduce wrinkles while you sleep by choosing a night-time moisturiser containing retinol.
Skin around the eyes is the first to show signs of ageing being the most sensitive and fragile. It is also prone to puffiness and dark circles, especially if one is physically tired. Choose a good quality eye cream that is designed to battle all your eye skin issues.
As everyone knows, excessive exposure to the sun is the main reason behind skin damage, resulting in premature fine lines, discoloration and loss of elasticity. To look younger and not older than your years, prevent cumulative damage by using a 15 SPF moisturiser or 30 SPF for sunbathing.
As well, prevent dull and flaky looking skin by exfoliating to remove dead cell build-up, the outcome of our skin’s natural process of shedding and renewing cells. Gentle exfoliation improves the skin instantly for a fresh-faced look. Remember, over-exfoliating frequently or with harsh products, will leave your skin susceptible to dryness, sunburn and other skin problems.
There are gentle abrasive sponges that can be used with cleanser or a wide variety of creams and scrubs that contain acids, such as, AHAs, to remove dead skin cells. Never forget the golden rule of facial skin care i.e. exfoliating after cleansing and finishing off with a skin-type suitable moisturiser.
