How To Get Rid Of Scabies

Scabies are tiny mites (also known as ‘itch mites’) that live in burrows dug into the skin of their hosts. Dogs, cats, and other animals can become infested with scabies (known as ‘mange’ on dogs) but these are a type of scabies that cannot successfully infest humans. If you become infested with scabies, chances are they came from another human being.
Treat all exposed individuals whether obviously infested or not. Incubation time is 6-8 weeks so symptoms may not show up for a while. If you do not treat everyone, it is as if you were never treated. See a dermatologist as soon as possible to begin treatment. Remember, although you may be disturbed at the thought of bugs, scabies is no reflection on your personal cleanliness. The second method uses medicinal tablet doses, which have an advantage over their topical counterparts in the fact that they are less toxic and ensure total coverage, in case the scabies rash has extended or infected several areas. Some tablets may trigger allergic reactions or even asthmatic ones.
Apply treatment to all skin from neck to legs – this includes between toes, the crease between the buttocks, etc. If you wash your hands after application, you need to reapply the medication to your hands again. One of the most common scabies treatments includes the use of sulfur ointments. Sulfur ointments are also applied topically, but they do not have the drawbacks of Lidane or other similar creams. Sulfur ointments are not toxic; hence they provide the safest way of treating the infection.
Other tips on how to get rid of scabies
The items may be dry-cleaned and changing the bedding. Pets do not need to be treated and items may also be placed in a sealed plastic bag and placed in the garage for two weeks. If the mites do not get a meal within one week, they die. Antihistamines may be prescribed to relieve itching, which can last for weeks, even after the mite is gone. Medication must be kept on the body for at least 36 hours before taking the next hot bath. Hot bath and thorough scrubbing followed by new clothes is also one of the ways to get rid of scabies.
