Every one waits for Diwali to roll round again, as it is the one time of year that both adults and children can enjoy themselves with impunity. The festival of lights when one celebrates the return of Ram and Sita from their forest exile, worshipping, brightly lit diyas or clay lamps, new clothes, mithai (sweets) and can fire crackers be far behind. However, no matter how much fun and an inevitable part of this most welcome of festivals, however, it has become necessary to warn adults and children alike that they must be handled carefully and safety measure taken, in order to avoid the hazard of fire break-outs. Here are some simple but very important tips on how to go crackers bursting for a safe Diwali.
Children should never be allowed to play with fire crackers unless they are under the supervision of an adult.
Firecrackers should be burst in an open space where there is nothing combustible or inflammatory lying around. If so, it must be removed at once.
Firecrackers should be bought only from licensed sellers, whose products have been found to be reliable in following safety measures.
On Diwali night when firecrackers are bursting all around you, dress only in cotton clothes and forget wearing anything that is synthetic or can catch fire easily.
To light firecrackers like a bomb, keep a save distance from it as you ignite it with the help of a sparkler or a long piece of wool. The open flames of matches and lighters should be avoided as they can be dangerous.
Small children should be kept away from the area used for bursting firecrackers.
Instructions written on Diwali Crackers should be read and followed carefully.
Firecrackers should not be burst indoors but outside in a well cleared area.
Aerial firecrackers, such as rockets etc. should not lit under overhead obstructions like trees, electric wires etc. Aerial firecrackers should not be lit facing open windows, doors or open buildings, as it can cause a fire accident.
Lit matches, sparklers should not be left near unused firecrackers.
Firecrackers should never be lit in the hand and never keep your face close when igniting it.
Don’t fire more then one cracker at a time.
Discard malfunctioning fireworks.
Keep first aid, water and a blanket ready in case of fire or an accident.
