How To Be Happy At Work

Being happy at work depends a whole lot on how passionate you are about it. As well, you need to ask yourself if you are focusing on what you want from your career, whether you are fully deserving of that overdue promotion and a salary raise. Last but not least, if at all you are game to change your mindset achieve happiness at work.

Instead of railing against your employers, your manager, analyse your self and act on your observations by changing and adapting to what is required of you. Forget the weaknesses of your co-workers and company, focus on what needs to be changed to make you happy at work?

Failure To Get Desired Job
Did you fail to get a job you wanted, whether in your own company or the one you interviewed for externally? What matters is if you felt you deserved it and didn’t get it, if it hurt or upset you, whether you responded with anger or jealous, blamed others e.g. the interviewer, recruitment consultant, the economic climate, timing, or circumstances for your failure? Forget everything as nothing will tell you why you lost out. Instead, concentrate on all things that make you happy, as taking care of your physical and mental state will improve your job prospects. Think positive; avoid thinking about the job you didn’t get.

There is also no need to go into a denial mode, but you mustn’t feel too complacent about your current job. Self-development is vital if you want to advance your career and achieve something better. You need to work out how things can be improved, what positive contribution you can make at work. For example, call up and thank someone who helped you last week. Transforming the way you behave will change your motivation at work, making you look at other things that can bring you personal satisfaction and contentment.

Human Aspect
At times it is easy to forget your co-workers are human as well. To get along with your co-workers, try to understand their personalities better. Build a strong team, strengthen relationships within your team by ensuring each team member has adequate insight into dominant personality characteristics of other team member, including how similar or different they are to their own. This helps one to understand what drives and motivates the boss, co-workers and clients, so that one can build satisfying, empathetic and deeper working relationships.

Develop a sense of self-worth, be aware of your own capabilities and strengths at work, take a look at how you behave and relate to others in the workplace, as a career builder should recognise and understand who he really is. Don’t compete with others; instead create your own sense of fulfilment and accomplishment.

Choose to be happy at work, think positively about your work, dwell on aspects of your work you like, avoid negative people and gossip, find co-workers you like and enjoy and spend your time with them. Your choices at work largely define your experience. You can choose to be happy at work. Don’t look for a career change because you feel your boss is not doing enough for you. Take charge of your own growth; ask for specific and meaningful help from your boss. Ask for frequent feedback, commit to only what you feel you can deliver, avoid negativity, make friends at work. If, all else fails, take career counselling, go through a list of career options, if you feel a career change is necessary!
