How To Avoid Makeup Mistakes
September 2, 2008
There is no woman who doesn’t like to look good and makeup is one of the tools that helps accomplish that goal. However, even so, if not done right, makeup gone bad can make us look horrible. So, in a world that cherishes beauty, here are some tips on how to avoid overly extreme makeovers.
A common mistake is to apply too much of blusher. Only you should know that you are wearing blush, which means it should look natural, flushed, pretty. And, no one has got that down pat better than J. Lo. Do it right by putting on blush before you put any other colour to your face.
Don’t go for a pinky / peach fuchsia shade of blush, look for a soft shimmery pinky / peach blush that makes you look young and fresh, no matter what your age. Not convinced, then consider this, have you ever seen J. Lo or Lara Flynn Boyle, Jack Nicholson’s one time squeeze ever without it. And, see where they put it. Yes, that’s right; they smile and then apply some blush on the apple of their cheeks, where you blush naturally.
Don’t use blue eye shadow from the 1960s even if someone tells you that you look great. It’s not a compliment but a makeup trap, so ditch the old blue shade for something new and trendy.
Blend, blend, and blend your makeup so that it doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb. You will not only be complimented on your makeup, but you will also have them oohing and aahing over how good you look.
Don’t wear blue, whether it is navy blue or dark blue or any blue as it will only serve to bring out the dark blue circles under your eyes. It’s just as bad as wearing a red dress when your face, neck, back, chest, arms and legs are all sunburnt. Instead, opt for warm chestnut, bronze shades for eye shadow and eyeliner.
Incorrect makeup colour choices can make you look tired. Don’t wear colours that have grey in them e.g. greyish pink blush, greyish mauve lipstick, grey eye shadow or even foundation that has grey in it. Grey not only makes you look tired but brings out the grey in your skin.
The best way to check out whether a colour has grey in it is to put the cosmetic colour on white paper. If, it comes up grey then ditch it. What you should know is that grey is the number one colour added to cosmetics. Tired looking skin may not be in need of a facial or the latest in alpha hydroxy, skin brightening wonder creams. What you need is makeup that doesn’t have even a hint of grey in it.
Last but not least, don’t overdraw your lips to make them look bigger. Fake illusion with colour and shine, instead. Start our with a lighter colour like a nude pink that mimics your natural lip colour, or else is two shades deeper than your own. Apply and then add shine. Since, shine bounces light it will give the illusion of fuller, poutier lips.
Play with makeup to see what looks good on you and stay away from common pitfalls that prevent you from looking fabulous!
