How to apply mascara – Mascara application and applying makeup
February 3, 2009
Applying makeup is an art. Just like any other art, you need a skilful hand and practice to make yourself perfect in it. Especially when it comes to eye makeup, things get a little bit more difficult because you have to take care of minute details here.
Mascara is an important part of any eye makeup. It adds volume and a flirtatious look to your eyes. It makes your eyelashes stand out, which is not generally possible if your lashes are of a lighter shade. Generally, mascara is applied at the end of eye makeup. However, it adds loads of beauty to the eye.
You can enhance your lashes and make your eyes look alluring if you know how to use eye makeup correctly. Technique is of importance here. You can spoil or enhance your look with eye makeup. With the right combination of technique and the proper eye makeup products, you can make your eyes look brighter and even more beautiful.
You should start with the upper lashes first. If you do them after doing the lower lashes, you might end up spoiling the lower lashes. Therefore, start with the upper lashes.
First, brush them downwards and then you can brush them upwards from beneath. You should take care that mascara does not clog your lashes. For this, you can use a tiny zigzag movement.
Now, brush your lower lashes. Use the tip of the mascara wand to do this. For the lower lashes, you can use a gentle side-to-side technique.
An important thing to remember is to keep a steady hand and not blink while the mascara is still wet. Complete the makeup by combing through your lashes with an eyelash comb. This will get rid of any excess mascara that the wand has left behind.
Some things to remember
You should select a colour that suits your look and your eyelashes. You can select brown if you have red or blonde lashes. Brown will give a more casual look to women with darker lashes. You can also go for brown-black or black to make your lashes more prominent and striking.
Before you apply mascara, you should curl your lashes so that your eyes will be widened. Use an eyelash curler for this.
Instead of applying one thick coat, you should apply two thin coats. This will give a more natural look. Also, allow the first coat to dry sufficiently before applying the second coat.
You should take absolute care while removing mascara so that you do not damage your eyes or the delicate skin around your eyes. Close your eyes and use a cotton bud dampened with a cosmetic cleanser over the lashes. Repeat till it is all removed.
