Home Births are not risky

The most common place for giving birth today is the hospital but there are a few cases of home births. It is estimated that about 2.5 percent of all births happen at home. However, about 43 percent of women of reproductive age would like to have their children delivered at home.
It is generally assumed that home births are unsafe. The reason for this view is that most women do not have the necessary information about the safety of home births. If you are among the 43 percent of women who would like a home birth, your decision could be affected by the factors listed below.
Factors that make home births safe
If you are having a normal pregnancy without any known complications, a home birth is not a risky choice. In addition to this, you should fancy giving birth in total privacy at home. You should also want to avoid such medical interventions like an epidural.
Perhaps you have other children that you cannot afford to leave at home, or you want your partner to be with you throughout the period. You should also not be living very far from a hospital so that if there are any last minute complications, you could easily get medical attention. Your partner should be a very practical and courageous person.
With all the above conditions satisfied, giving birth at home should not be risky at all.
What you must do
If you decide to have a home birth, you must first discuss it with your doctor or midwife during the early months of your pregnancy. It is important to understand that not all doctors support the idea of a home birth. Therefore, you have to look for the best support so far as this issue is concerned.
Rick Porter, a consultant obstetrician at the Wiltshire Healthcare NHS Trust, affirms that it is safe to give birth at home contrary to what most people think. To him, most problems during child birth start showing signs very early, so there is enough time to be transferred to the hospital as early as possible.
There will be plenty of time for your midwife to call for a transfer in case there is an emergency.
