Hitting Plateaus

Having a daily regimen for your workout is great. Time and time again you have heard that you need to change it up. If you keep your routine the same day after day, your muscle growth will come to a screeching halt just like when dieting. You have to keep things fresh in order to keep things moving along.

There are quite a few different ways to keep your workout fresh so that you don’t hit that dreaded plateau. For example, drop sets, long rests, forced reps and pyramiding are a few.

Drop sets are when you maintain the same amount of reps while decreasing the weight. Do your set with the usual amount of weight and as soon as you are finished so another round with less weight. Keep doing reps until you can’t do anymore. This is strenuous on your muscles and a great way to break a plateau.

A few other routine changes are partials, negatives, rest-pause, compound sets and just simply changing your routine. By using different exercises and just increasing or decreasing will keep your body motivated. After all, your mind is in the right place and your body should be also.

Try using the compound sets to change things up where you actually exercise the same part of your body with two different exercises without a break between the two. This is another way to shock your body and keep it from stopping at a certain point.

Simply remember that change is good. It may seem strange at first when trying to add these new routines into the one that you have been used to for so long. But, by doing this you will start to see results once again and it keep you from getting discouraged.

It can be frustrating not to see any results from all of your hard work so it is important to not let yourself fall into a rut. Keep it light and keep it fresh. Your workout will never be the same again and neither will your body. Your muscles and your mind will thank you for it.
