If you want to maintain your health and stay fit, then you have to eat more of the healthy stuff and less of the unhealthy stuff.

However, the irony is that some of the healthiest foods are also some of the most expensive. Besides your own willpower, this might be the biggest obstacle to eating healthy.

However, you can eat healthy and still not spend a fortune on it. This article discusses some of the things you can do to accomplish this.

Prepare a shopping list beforehand

Instead of going to the supermarket and then browsing through the aisles to see what you want to buy, enlist the exact things you need to buy. This will help you stay focused and keep you from spending on unnecessary purchases.

The list will help you keep yourself from giving in to the temptation of buying something that is not necessary and, most of all, is not healthy enough to eat.In addition to this, if you spend less on unwanted items then you will manage to save some up for spending on more healthy and nutritious items.

Keep an eye on the ongoing sale

Usually, stores offer some special discounts and even conduct discount sales once in a while. You should keep your eyes open for such information. This will allow you to make some savings on your food purchases.You can spend on these low cost items and stock up the healthy food so that you can use it later on.

Store the staples

Pasta, rice and flour are generally on sale. Therefore, you should store them up whenever possible.

Do not go shopping on an empty stomach

If you shop when hungry, then chances are that you will end up making several unhealthy purchases and even go way beyond your economy budget.

Get the labels right

You should read the labels carefully before buying any food so that you are assured that it is only healthy food that you are buying.

Get the sizes right

The same size of cans can still contain different amounts of food. Therefore, be careful when you purchase something cheaper just because you think you are getting more of it, in fact you might be paying more for the same stuff.

Seek out alternatives

Seek out cheaper alternatives. For example, lentils and beans are cheaper alternatives to meat, while still giving enough protein.
