Great Outdoor Winter Training Ideas
Summer is a great time for outdoor exercises. It gives the opportunity to exercise all muscles of the body. But when the winter sets in, all those who enjoy these outdoor exercises get worried about the workouts. But it is good to know that there are a lot of outdoor winter training ideas apart from skiing. You can try any of these.
Cross-country skiing
The basic equipment required is cross-country skis, boots and poles. Cross-country skiing has a lot of health benefits. You can burn a lot of calories during winter thus making you loose weight if that is your main goal. You will be able to return to normal summer time activity with ease because out-door skiing will help your aerobic fitness because your muscles will be able to deal with the lactic acid that will be produced. It is also a good upper body workout option.
Snow biking
You need a snow bike or a regular bike with extra grip tires for snow biking. This is a great way to work on the squad and the hamstring muscles, and also the muscles around the knee joint reducing the pain you might experience when doing other activities. Snow biking is also a good way of learning how to maintain focus because you need to balance yourself on the bike as you ride on slippery and uneven roads.
Running
You need a pair of running shoes with good traction, that’s all. Running gives a lot of cardiovascular benefits. But running on snow takes this to a different level. It helps burn more calories and strengthens the calf and ankle muscles. It improves your cardiovascular system therefore reducing the risk of high blood pressure, heart diseases and stroke.
Hiking
The basic equipment is hiking shoes and poles (optional). It is such a great winter activity to do during vacations. The fact that you retreat to the calmness of nature during hiking is enough to relieve you of stress. It will also improve your agility.
Winter sports will provide you with great alternatives when you begin to feel the boredom of going to gym all the time.
