Glowing Nails
Take a look at your fingernails and if you notice any variations in texture or colour, these can provide valuable clues about your health to the trained eye. Not only do nails provide an external sign of our health, if they are weak, brittle it is a sure sign of nutritional deficiency. Keep alert and follow up on these clues to maintain healthy, glowing nails with the power of nails. Ignoring them could result in painful ingrown nails or pesky fungal infections.
Well-kept and maintained nails not only add to the well-groomed look, nails are also useful for picking up things. Therefore, it is in your best interest to ensure you have strong, healthy, glowing, well-groomed nails. The following tips should help ensure perfect nail health:
Give a clear coat of nail polish to protect your nails and avoid acetone or formaldehyde polish removers, as they tend to dry out the nails. Hydrate your nails by rubbing a small amount of petroleum jelly into cuticles and skin surrounding the nails every evening before going to bed. Or, else you can substitute petroleum jelly with Vitamin E rich castor oil or olive oil, both of which are great for your cuticles. And excellent remedy, Tea tree or Lavender oil rubbed into nails will get rid of fungal infections.
Always slip on a pair of rubber gloves when doing household chores, such as, gardening, scrubbing the bathroom or washing dishes. Go a step further and moisturise hands before slipping on the rubber gloves for the softest hands this side of town.
Never cut cuticles but gently push them back at a 45-degree angle. Always trim nails straight across to avoid ingrown nails. File nails in one direction not back and forth and never right after a bath, as wet nails break very easily. Since, nail buffing increases blood supply to the nails, which in turn stimulates the matrix of the nail to grow, massage nails to keep them strong and shiny.
Maintain a healthy diet by adding a glass of zinc rich milk and a hard-boiled egg to your daily diet. Eat a diet that is rich in Vitamins A (green, yellow and orange vegetables), E (nuts and leafy green vegetables) and Biotin (eggs, almonds, soybeans and sweet potatoes) for healthy, glowing nails.
