Getting Ready To Party
August 29, 2008
‘Tis the season to be jolly, with Diwali round the corner, the party season is here and time to party on! But, there a few things you need to check out before a party, such as, what you are going to wear.
Dress Sense
If, there’s a dress tucked away into your closet which you would like to wear, try it on well before the big day. If, it fits and is in style, great, otherwise consider another option. You don’t want to arrive at a party wearing a dress that is too tight or loose or simply dated. Also, don’t wear ethnic wear such as, an Umrao Jaan style kurta and churidar, when you know every one will be in trendy, western attire. Make sure your clothes are crease free, as a crumpled dress can spoil your entire evening.
Accessories
If, you are happy with the dress, think accessories. Inner wear that goes with the dress, scarf, stole, shawl, evening bag, clutch, bracelet, earrings, necklace, sandals, shoes and hair accessories.
Silky Mane
You need to decide how you are going to style and wear your hair to the party. Say welcome to Marilyn Monroe with a modern twist. Go for asymmetrical curls and waves, long and straight on top, ending in curls at the bottom, or a shorter bob with wisps and waves. Or else, part hair to one side; start with waves tucked behind your ear and end with curls on the left. On the right, start with a big curl and end with a bunch of curls.
Ensure your mane is as silky as you feel and that goes for your skincare regimen, also, if you want that special glow for the party. Make an appointment with your neighbourhood beautician for the morning of the party to get your eyebrows shaped and threaded, unwanted facial hair, including that on arms, underarms and legs waxed away.
Party Manners
Don’t show up on time, as trust me, you will only arrive to find your host in her bathrobe. You’ll probably end up opening the door for other guests. Best bet is to arrive an hour later than the time stipulated on your part invite.
Presents for the host are a must-get. It is good manners to carry at least a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates or a bunch of flowers. Better still get a personalised gift, something they’d like, or something you think will take their fancy.
Eat a couple of hours before leaving for the party to avoid burping with your first glass of the bubbly. Eat just enough to prevent you reaching for the fat laden hors d’oeuvres.
Mingle, mingle, and mingle, have the best fun ever!
