Getting Funky – Plus Size Fashion

These days when most celebrities are assize double-zero size, there is unbelievable pressure on young girls to lose the fat and become as stick-thin as their role models. This makes it quite easy to forget that the average dress size of most women worldwide is a gorgeously curvaceous size 8 plus. However, some courageous models have dared to be size zero plus, ensuring that fashion these days is not reserved purely for the very skinny, but is also for ordinary women who like to follow and dress in some of the season’s latest trends.
It is a good thing too that plus size retailers have embraced key spring and summer catwalk trends by offering a range of clothes in the year’s bold colours and flirty fabrics, which flatter every shape and size of woman. These clothes collections are not only bold in colour, but they are also extremely feminine in its style, providing perfect wardrobe staples, whatever your size.
No longer do girls with curves have to wear shapeless over-sized tents that pose as dresses. They can now choose from various style and fashion genres inspired by the 70s, such as, the iconic maxi dresses in a range of vibrant colours, cute print tops and dark indigo high-waist jeans.
Going funky the ‘70s way, clothes for size plus women include 1920s art deco detailing features on formal jersey, native and ethnic prints. There are also saucy nautical vibes with striped jersey and chambray knits that feature pretty embroidered details, crisp white linen shirts and red straight leg jeans.
Our plus size gal can also wear clothes that feature contrast tailoring, including two-piece trouser suits and the essential waistcoat. There is also the vibrant yellow shirt dress; a staple must for any summer wardrobe. No matter what waist size, wear it with panache, cinching the waist with a wide belt to create a gorgeous hourglass figure. Alternatively, for urban summer chic, team a cute pair of denim shorts with a pretty cotton blouse, tailored blazer and silver trimmed Mary-Janes.
Finally, whatever the size or shape, every woman should remember that every great outfit needs to be complemented with fabulous accessories, such as, a black mock-croc patent bowling bag with silver buckle detailing, an oversized clutch or a tan leather slouch bag with a gold buckle.
