Get Rid Of Your Eyebags
May 31, 2008
Eye bags, puffy eyes, and under eye dark circles not only detract from your looks, they also make you look older than you really are. They mar the beauty of the eyes. Often these problems can be associated with allergies, aging, fluid retention, too much salt or alcohol, excessive crying, smoking, pregnancy, menstruation, and last but not least, lack of sleep.
With no fatty layers under the skin around the eyes, it tends to be thin getting even thinner as we grow older. This allows blood vessels and dark bone shadows to show through giving us dark circles and shadows under the eyes. Annoying to say the least, there isn’t a soul who doesn’t wish to get rid of them. However, one can look good by getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, giving up smoking and certain foods like milk and chocolate. An extra pillow or two to elevate the head while sleeping also helps prevent fluid build up. Salt intake should be reduced and food and drinks containing too much salt banned from your diet.
Placing cool cucumber or potato slices over closed eyes for a few minutes helps get rid of eyebags by tightening baggy eyes. Soaking cotton balls in cold milk and placing over the eyes for a few minutes is another alternative that seems to work well. A cold compress, tea bags, eye masks also help reduce swelling and water retention under the eyes. Apply warm olive oil to lower eyelid with the help of cotton sticks. After a minute or two remove them, then pat lower eyelid to help skin absorb the olive oil and follow with a light massage. Add a drop of rosemary oil and rose extract to half a basin of water. Soak cotton wool in water, squeeze and place on eyes for 15-minutes.
However, prevention is better than cure. Some preventative measures are not drinking water before going to bed, as water before going to sleep damages blood circulation around eyes. Massaging the skin around the eyes will help drain extra water that has accumulated during the day around eyes. The best way to do so is to lie flat on the bed and close the eyes. Using both forefingers, press the dents under the heads of your eyebrows. The massage will also help relax your eyes.
If, your eyebags look bloated, it is not due to excess water around the eyes. Au contraire, it means the skin around your eyes is dry. So, to get rid of eye bags, opt for moisturizing eye creams. Try any of the popular products on the market to revitalize eyes by moisturising, strengthening, and thickening the skin around the eyes to help reverse the signs of aging, such as, eye bags, dark circles, swollen eyes, fines lines and wrinkles.
