You work in a professional office, where business wear is essential. You have an active social life and have a lot of events to attend in the evenings, where you need to look glamourous. How do you create a look that can serve the needs of both?
Fashion experts offer some advice when it comes to going from the cubicle to cocktails. The important thing to keep in mind is that you need to project a professional appearance at work and abide by the corporate policies, but this does not mean you have to look stuffy.
Avoid the dark, heavy fabrics and suits and choose lighter fabrics that soften your appearance while still looking successful. An easy way to dress up a skirt suit is to thrown on a decorative scarf. It can be worn around the neck and will compliment any suit or even dressy sweaters. When you are ready to leave the office behind and head out to happy hour, ditch the scarf and take off the jacket.
Some women opt for wearing a professional kind of suit with a trendy shirt underneath that looks great alone with the skirt for after hours and still business like for the work day. Choose shoes that are appropriate for work, and if necessary throw a fun, trendy paid of shoes in your car to quickly switch into before heading out for the cocktails.
If you find yourself wearing your hair in an up-do at the office, but like to let your hair down when you go out, choose a hairstyle that is loosely held up, so that it will not leave unsightly creases in your hair when you take it out. A braid is also an elegant way to wear your hair for the day, and when you are ready to step out – take out the braid, use a little mousse or gel and scrunch you hair to release beautiful waves.
As far as accessories are concerned, you may tend to pare them down at the office, but you can accent any business attire or club wear with a decorative clutch or handbag. These can be taken to work, and can also be fun in the clubs.
