Foot Massage
A good foot massage is a wonderful way to relax when done correctly. Here is a procedure for a foot massage.
The first step to foot massage is to warm up. Rub the feet briskly to improve the circulation. This helps prevent any strain as you advance into the main massage.
Hold the foot in your hand and massage the top of the foot. Move your hand from the ankle to the toes and back. Apply minimal pressure on the leg especially the toes and inner feet, as it is just a warm up. Repeat as required.
Place hands on the foot such that one hand is on the top and the other is at the sole. Slowly rub the leg from front to back i.e. from the toes to the ankle. Repeat the step by moving your hand to the toes and back again. After this hold your foot and work on the toes.
With one hand hold the foot and with the other hand pull each toe one by one slowly. Grasp the toes and gently rotate clockwise and then anticlockwise. Caution must be exercised to prevent any accidents.
The next step is called thumb walking. As the name suggests you use both your thumbs for the massage. Using the thumbs of either hand alternatively and applying a little pressure glide the thumbs down the center and sides of the foot.
Apply pressure in circular motion at the arch of the feet. Make a fist with your hand and knead up and down your feet. This is similar to kneading dough and hence is known as kneading.
This should however be done softly. Hold your hands in a cup shape and grip your feet. Using appropriate pressure move your hand up and down your leg while still maintaining the cup grip.
There are different types of foot massages available. Choose one that is suitable for your feet and your requirement. A foot massage is great to relax the feet especially when you are tired or tensed. As you massage, you can actually feel the tendons at the side of your feet relaxing.
