Foot massage-a relief for tired feet

A foot massage is as easy to perform as the relief that it provides. It can be done at home.

The massage ingredients
You will need two teaspoons castor oil, jojoba, soybean or extra-virgin olive oil, three drops of lavender essential oil, a drop of German chamomile essential oil and a drop of geranium essential oil. Mix them all in a bowl, stirring thoroughly.

The massage
Relax your foot and hold it so that one hand is on the sole and one on the top. Protect your clothing and furniture with a towel if you are using a massage oil or lotion.

Oil your hands and rub them to warm them. Then start working from your ankle towards your toes. Use long firm strokes to stimulate the circulation in your foot.

Now hold your heel in one hand and your toes in the other. Circle your foot this way five times clockwise and anticlockwise. Your joints will loosen and your foot will relax.

Start with your big toe now. Gently stroke the length of each toe in turn. Upon reaching the tip, pull it gently to stretch it out.

Now massage the pads just below your toes. Press firmly before moving on the next. Proceed to your little toe, then change hands and work your way back with your other thumb. Repeat it again.

Using your thumb, press down gently from the top to the base of your big toe. Do the same on all your toes. Change hands once you get to your little toe and go back the other way using the other thumb. Repeat it.

Now, hold your toes in one hand, and with your thumb on the other hand press along the sole. Press it in a line from the base of your big toe to the centre of your foot, following the line of the metatarsal. Do the same on all your toes and repeat on the top of your foot following the same line. Doing this will release the tension in the inner and outer longitudinal arch.

Start at your heel and using your thumb press along the inside edge of your foot all the way up to your big toe. Pressing firmly, go up the line over your instep. Repeat it on the outside edge of your foot, from your heel to your little toe.

End by massaging the lower half of your sole. Again rotate your ankle.

Remember to use a firm touch all through the massage.
