Pregnancy requires lot of precautions and care. Thus, women pay lot of attention on foods to steer clear of during pregnancy. A healthy and balance diet is very necessary for any woman while pregnancy. Many food stuffs are required to be added in daily meal of pregnant woman. In addition, it is also required to avoid some food materials.
Here are some foods that should be avoided during pregnancy. Actually, in pregnancy many physical changes occur in woman’s body. As this is very delicate stage for any woman, she should be very particular about her diet. In addition, pregnancy requires avoiding such food stuffs which have contents that may prove injurious for the proper development of baby.
Things that should be strictly avoided throughout pregnancy:
Ripened cheese such as Camembert or Brie as well as blue vein cheese like Stilton is very risky to eat in pregnancy. It may cause possibility of listeriosis that is very nasty infection that later on result into miscarriage or stillbirth. It can also make newborn very ill. So, if you like to eat cheese then cream cheese, cheese spreads, mozzarella, ricotta and feta are fine.
Avoid taking such products that are undercooked or raw like eggs, dips, home-made mayonnaise or desserts (chocolate mousse, tiramisu, meringues or ice cream). These sorts of products have risk of the salmonella poisoning that could make pregnant woman very ill. However, it would not affect directly to the baby.
Anything that contains liver should also be ignored during pregnancy. Liver contain very high level of Vitamin A that may be harmful for your baby. In addition, also keep away from undercooked fish and meat because it would lead to the risk of listeriosis or toxoplasmosis that could result in stillbirth and major health problems in baby. Also ignore undercooked readymade meals. These meals also involve risk of listeriosis, thus make sure before eating that your food is perfectly piping hot.
Always eat washed fruits and veggies because if pregnant woman eat them unwashed, then there is a risk of listeriosis or toxoplasmosis. So, rewash even bagged salads. Fishes like swordfish, marlin or shark should be totally avoided because they would harm infant’s nervous system.
Avoid peanuts, in case your partner or you have nut allergy, eczema, hayfever or asthma.
So, keep an eye on foods to steer clear of during pregnancy in order to stay away from any harmful effect later. Finally, eat fresh, well cooked and piping hot food.
