Most of us tend to fill our wardrobe with baggy and ill fitting clothes the moment we see the first signs of a baby bump appearing. Becoming a mother is essentially one of the most important parts of any woman’s life.

However, you don’t need to say goodbye to the fashionista tag you had carried with you all along. With a few quick changes in your wardrobe, you can become one of the poshest and most fashionable new mommy around! .

Don’t hide your baby bump: A baby can be the best thing that can happen to a woman. So why go about trying to hide that wonderful sign? Show off your baby bump with pride!

Instead of dark colors and shades, opt for lighter and brigther clothing. Colors like blue, pink, green and yellow can work wonders on you,  making you look and feel gorgeous. Floral prints also accentuate your features in addition to ties, dyes and classic paisleys.

Choose lighter fabrics: The skin near your stomach stretches to a maximum during pregnancy. Hence, it needs to have ample space to breathe. Natural fabrics like linens, cottons, jersey blends, chiffons and muslins are considered best at this time and can be very soft and gentle on the body.

Avoid tight clothing that can become quite uncomfortable after a while. Wear long flowing garments instead to give off an elegant look. Wrap skirts, boubous and maxis are the order of the day and can show off your baby bump nicely.

Make sure to have a few pieces of wrap dresses and blouses; kurtis (loose flowing shirts that stop at the knees), traditional Indian dresses called anarkalis which flow from the chest down; and maxi dresses in your wardrobe at all times. Opt for empire cuts, pleats and tiers as they tend to show off your curves the right way!

Tips to flawlessly hide the tummy: If you still feel apprehensive about your baby bump and want to cover it to a certain extent without compromising on the style quotient, opt for styles that will move the attention away from your mid riff.

Opt for V- neck dresses and shirts which come with some kind of contrasting detailing around the neck line. Alternatively, you can match an otheriwse plain V-neck top or wrap with a beautiful neck piece which again accentuates your neck line.

Be sure to complete the look with matching earrings. In addition to wearing only V-neck tops and dresses, you can opt for necklines that come with embroidery or a few ruffles in addition to opting for off shoulder tops. Tunics are best accompanied by chic belts that can speak volumes about your trendy looks.

Wearing Jeans: Stock away your hipsters for a while and opt for denims that are comfortable and loose around the waistline. In addition to this, you can wear dungarees which will give you a cute look.

There are several brands that specialise in maternity wear and you can walk over to the nearest retail garment outlet for a good pair of maternity jeans.

Underwear: Don’t go in for tight bras. Instead opt for fuller ones that are comfortable and expandable. Buy only good quality bras which can be feasible to breast feed your kid after delivery.

No heels: Your body undergoes a radical change during pregnancy and  wearing heals at this point of time can be quite painful. Store away all your stilettos and buy a few pairs of fancy flats that can go with anything you wear.
