Exotic Cuisine
June 12, 2008
This is the time of year to experiment with different foods and spirits. Summer offers the convenience of fresh produce, tropical fruits and fresh fish. Whatever your particular taste, you can create a fresh new twist on any of your favorites.
If you want to create a 4th of July spectacular party this year, don’t just settle for potato salad and burgers – step out and explore the different tastes of exotic cuisine. The only advice is to try out the recipes before the big day of the party so that you are confident in making and serving your enticing new dishes to your guests.
First, you need to decide on a theme, since 4th of July is an American tradition; focus on an area of the United States that you would like to recreate for your party. Some popular regions to choose are the South, Louisiana, Boston or the west coast. If you choose New Orleans for example, you will want to focus on having a jazz and blue band setting and offer your guests the best of traditional Louisiana cuisine.
Treat your guests with the experience of the original cocktail of Louisiana – the Sazerac. The Sazerac is a tantalizing cocktail created in the 1830’s. It consists of sugar, water, rye whiskey, pernod, peychaud’s bitters, ice cubes and a twist of lemon. To make this tasty libation, dissolve the sugar and water in a mixing glass or bowl. Add in the whiskey, pernod, bitters and ice cubes. Strain into a frosty mug and twist the lemon over the rim.
For your entrees, select either a seafood entrée such as king crab legs, or many people’s favorite - the southern fried chicken. You can search online for many different recipes and varieties of these dishes, and you can also create your own unique twist as well. For side dishes, serve red beans and rice and jambalaya.
Now that your guest’s taste buds are satisfied, make sure you create the ideal environment by playing blues and jazz type music, and try creating a beautiful, colorful surrounding to emulate the essence of New Orleans.
Whatever great American destination you choose, don’t settle for the ordinary this year, try exotic cuisine which is different and as long as your carefully plan and prepare your party, you will add a whole new way to celebrate Independence Day this summer and for summers to come!
