Exercise To Boost The Brain
Cardiovascular workouts and weight training are no doubt useful for building up muscles and improving physical fitness, but how many of us think of exercise as a workout for the mind.
A little known fact, but regular fitness training has been proven to relieve mental stress that often stems from the workplace. Exercise also helps keep the mind healthy and ticking over like a well-oiled machine.
Research shows that 43% of working people due to time constraints cannot get to the gym on a regular basis. Demanding careers, heavy workloads, all take their toll mentally and without regular exercise, workplace productivity suffers, boding ill for both employers and employee careers.
Many workers caught up in the rigmarole of the workplace; fail to schedule regular breaks and lunchtimes, let alone a fitness regime, into their busy days. The end result is often a sluggish mind and an equally sluggish body. The answer to this is to turn lunch breaks into exercise workouts.
Energise your mind by using your lunch break to go for a brisk walk or engage in a short burst of exercise. Exercise releases endorphins that help lower stress levels considerably and ensure one is able to return to one’s desk in a positive frame of mind, ready to face the most challenging of work demands. The stress and pressure of working life is best relieved by exercising to deal with mental and physical tension and to reduce the body’s levels of cortisol, the stress hormone.
Just 20-minutes of exercise a day equips one to deal positively with stressful situations. Engage in a vigorous workout you feel frustrated at work or home. Boxing, weight training or intensity speed endurance on a treadmill helps get the anger out of one’s system.
Physical exercise also exercises the brain and there is a lot of truth in Yoga’s mind, body and soul concept!
