Essentials of Dynamic Yoga
If you want to learn how to control your breathing, dynamic yoga is a great way to accomplish this. In order for these postures to work, you need to be able to control your breathing, and have correct posture. These types of exercises will not only put you in a meditative state, but will also release your inner energy while giving your body a challenge.
It is very important to listen to your body. This is not the same as working out and lifting weights where you want to push your body over and beyond the limits. You need to stay within your limits in order to get the most out of these exercises and postures.
First things first, you have to learn to listen to your breathing. Follow the beat of your very own breath, as this will be your guideline to keep you from injury. It needs to remain steady and slow. Never hold your breath as this could cause strain on your muscles and body.
Another important factor when practicing dynamic yoga is alignment. This is when your body weight is evenly distributed and your body is in complete balance. This is to keep your body from injury and your spine completely supported. You also need to lock in the energy or life force that flows through your body. This practice is called Bandhas and there are 3 levels to this of which the other two are mula bandha and uddiyana.
If you have an injury it may be better for you to put off doing these types of exercises until you are better. Also, if you are pregnant, wait until after the baby is born, and you should modify the routine if it is that time of the month. Some of the postures can be difficult until you have had some practice, so you can modify them by using a towel or something else that will help you to keep your posture and balance. As always with yoga, if you are new to this, seek the advice of a professional teacher.
