Wedding cakes can come in all shapes and sizes, all different flavors, and all kinds of styles. While many brides and grooms like to try something different and go towards a theme or unique kind of cake, there are others that are sticking with the tradition of a more simple and elegant design. Classic cakes are elegant and never go out of style.
Some of the bakeries and wedding cake designers today are saying that they are starting to see a trend in the simple and elegant look to wedding cakes. Traditional designs such as a double or triple tiered cake with elegant icing and carefully sculpted flowers and bows are really becoming back in style. During the past few decades there have been all different kinds of accessories being added to wedding cakes. From water fountains to chocolate fountains, you name it and it has probably been on a wedding cake.
If you are looking for an elegant design to your wedding cake, experts and bridal consultants say the more basic the better. Classic round or square tiers with very simple accessories often are the best. Icing can be elaborate and the more detailed, the more it looks carefully crafted.
To create the look of classic elegance, you should stick with white or off-white and limit your use of ribbons, flowers or any other accessories around the cake. If you want to add design to the cake, stick with colors of gold or silver to add a rich look, while not altering the simplicity. Also, make sure that you check around a lot when you are going to order your cake, a lot of places may try to persuade you to add more and that bigger is better, but make sure you find a cake decorator who understands what you want in the cake design.
Another tip offered by professional wedding consultants is to mimic the look of your wedding through your cake. For instance, if you have a lot of heart shaped accessories or decorations, use your wedding cake to incorporate the heart shapes and design. If you want to keep your wedding cake small in size to keep it elegant and dainty, you can always order a sheet cake that can be served to your guests instead, therefore you can preserve the look of your cake while still satisfying your guests.
