Driving in rain
Driving in the rain can be a scary thing, and in the night, it is even worse. It is difficult to see out of the window, and the other car’s lights seems to make it worse. Especially when you begin to hydroplane! Here are some tips to avoid getting into an accident while it’s raining.
You should first confirm that the windshields and windows are clean, both inside and out, before driving and also clear your interior windows regularly of smoke residue if you’re a smoker. The next step is checking headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals. You should be sure that windshield wiper motor is functioning and that both wiper blades are not worn down or split. Rainy conditions are dangerous since they reduce traction on the road and they limit visibility and rain can also be accompanied by high winds, which may toss hazards like downed trees and power lines into the road.
When you drive in the rain, you need to be extremely alert, and you should drive slowly so that you can react to events on the road ahead. Slow driving will also limit the risk of hydroplaning. Turn on the headlights along with your wipers whenever it starts raining and drive slower than the speed limit in bad conditions by keeping a greater-than-normal distance from the car ahead of you to compensate for poor braking conditions. You should pull over when it is raining very hard you ca not see the edge of the road or other running vehicles. Rest areas, roadside malls and restaurants are the best places to take a halt until the deluge abstains.
As said earlier, rain introduces a variety of dangerous factors to driving: visibility is reduced, traction between your tires and the road is reduced and your car handles with much less of its dry-road predictability and therefore, even though you might be cruising along serenely at highway speed in an apparently harmless shower, your normal safety margins are cut by an unknowable amount. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
