You have a fancy new job with a corner office in an MNC, excellent! But, you could do better, as the more you make, the more you can shop! Which means, not only do you need to work smarter and harder, but also look the part. Here are some tips for dressing for the job.
It’s an office not the bedroom or the nightclub. So, your best bet would be to go for something classic, well-tailored, non fussy and in colours that are striking not startling. Keep your skirts simple, well-cut and knee length. Wear shirts and blouse in elegant styles, while sleeveless is allowed, forget halters and spaghetti straps. Forget dresses that resemble wedding cakes, instead opt for wrap dresses or smart A-line tunics. Pants should be well cut and in neutral colours that can be teamed with shirts or kurtis. Wear tailored suits in natural fibres.
Underwear should be discreet and free of Madonna moments. No visible through sheer blouse, not tackily dropping bra straps, no panty lines, no thongs peeking over waistlines. Go for discreet styles that support, fit well and are in neutral colours.
Shoes and handbags really do define a look, so don’t be a skinflint. Invest in a few, but good quality expensive accessories. While, neutral colours work well for your office wardrobe, why not experiment and accommodate trendy styles in shoes and handbags.
Take jewellery seriously. Simple and minimal is what you want, not dowry pieces. Stay away from multiple bangles, chandelier earrings, elaborate necklaces and rings, including pierced into more exotic, visible body parts.
Don’t go overboard with makeup. Subtle and sophisticated is the key. Avoid bright colours, sticking to matte shades. Keep nails well manicured and fragrance light and airy. Hair should be clean and simply styled.
Make sure your clothes are clean and crease free, shoes are not scruffy or broken heeled, hair is combed into place, unwanted hair is waxed or defuzzed, and all buttons are in place and secretly hooked.
