Don’t Rely on Fad Diets
September 30, 2009
Every time you turn on the television or internet or turn the pages of a magazine, you see one company or another or some paid model telling you that this diet program or these weight loss pills and supplements are the answer to your weight loss dreams.
Some of these fad weight loss programs will cause you to lose weight during the initial stages but more often than not, you will gain the weight back in the end. So many of these miracle diets and pills are actually harmful and do not promote healthy weight loss.
These fad diets are not a reliable way to lose weight safely and effectively and should be left alone. The way to lose weight involves three main factors. These three factors include eating a healthy diet and including regular exercise into your daily routine.
Most fad diets substitute unhealthy eating habits or supplements for the true way to lose weight and keep it off. By changing the way you eat and exercise, you create a new lifestyle.
While you are on most fad diets, you only follow the rules while on the diet and then go back to your old ways once you stop following the diet or stop taking the pills.
One way to drop excess weight is to have your body burn more calories than you actually eat. The way to burn a large amount of calories is through exercising.
There is no way around it. Exercise is inexpensive and convenient. You don’t have to join a gym or buy equipment for the home, to exercise. Most people choose to do cardio exercise to lose weight.
Cardio is only half of the exercise that you need to do. While the cardio burns fat, you need to replace the fat that has been burned with muscle. Muscle gain can be achieved through weight training. Plus, weight training is another way to burn fat.
The second trick to losing weight is to change your eating habits. So many fad diets tell us that we can lose weight without eliminating the foods we like to eat. Well, if you enjoy fried foods and foods high in sugar, no fad diet is going to work.
Plus, no matter how hard you exercise, if you’re not eating right, it won’t make a difference. Your new, healthy diet should include fruits and vegetables, lean meats, healthy fats and dairy products, and carbohydrates. The fats that you eat should be “good fats”. Good fats are full of essential nutrients.
Along with eating healthy, you need to drink healthy too. That means getting rid of the soda and fruit juices and drinking water instead. The body uses water to flush out toxins which can cause you to feel tired or add excess weight. A gallon each day should do the trick.
