Do You Have Sensitive Skin? Don’t Stress About It
If your skin is easily damaged or irritated, can’t tolerate cold, heat, wind, temperature changes, pollution, is dry and delicate, then you seem to have sensitive skin. 56% of the Canadian women suffer from this condition.
Sensitive skin
The name says it all. If your skin is sensitive to anything and everything around it then it is sensitive skin. Generally, this means that your skin gets irritated a lot. Most of the time is the skin of the face that is sensitive. The reasons or causes can range from being genetic to environmental factors. The function of skin is to prevent water loss from the body. It carries out this function by producing an easily replaceable fat and protein layer.
Symptoms
Sensitive skin usually reacts to any physical stress like shaving. Skin care or cosmetics may produce an over reaction in the skin and the skin may also tingle or tighten without any visible signs of it.
Treatment
The only treatment for this kind of skin is proper care. Certain precautions and care can be taken to prevent any discomfort to the skin.
Use cosmetics and skin care products with care
It is important to select skin care products like moisturiser and sunscreen that are specifically designed for sensitive skin. Use only mild soap-free cleansing products and rinse well after using. Avoid using perfumed or scented creams because they can cause irritation.
For exfoliating, use cleansers having salicylic acid but always avoid exfoliations. Wash your face with tepid water.
Always use oil-free cosmetics, especially foundation and blusher. Try water based cosmetics instead of oil based.
Check the ingredients of anything that you apply on your skin so as to avoid any harsh chemicals.
Be aware about environmental changes
Always be on your watch for temperature changes. As winter sets in, your skin may become dry and irritable.
Stay stress-free
Stress has a negative effect on any skin and therefore, if you have sensitive skin you should be extra careful. Stress interferes with the normal repair and regulation of the skin. The effects of stress on the natural antioxidants that prevent aging of skin are detrimental.
In conclusion, simply take care about the things mentioned afore and keep your skin healthy.
