Self service, they say; is the best service. There are certain conditions that a mother can simply treat at home. There are simple but effective remedies that could be used to treat things like teething pain, to tummy ache.
Teething pain
You need just a clean flannel. Fold it into a triangular shape and dip one of the corners into water. Put in a freezer. When your baby feels the pain, let him gnaw at the frozen tip. To prevent freezer burn, don’t give it to him straight from freezer. This is helpful as the cold fabric soothes irritated gums and the inflammation. If symptoms persist see a doctor.
Nappy rash
All you need is a hairdryer that can be set to cool-air. Lay your baby on your lap after washing her bottom with warm water and cool with the hair dryer set to cool air. Warm water has the ability to clean the skin without any irritation. Cooling the bottom with the dryer avoid friction that towel cleaning can cause.
A sting
You need a credit card or tweezers and some ice cubes. Scrape of the sting with the credit card or the tweezers. The wash the area with soap and water after which you soothe the area with ice cubes. Scraping the sting off instead of squeezing the place reduces the risk of pushing back venom into the skin. The ice prevents swelling and reduces the pain. In case of allergic reaction, see your doctor.
Clearing cradle cap
Get a bowl of olive oil which you must rub into the baby’s scalp before they go to bed. Comb her hair the next morning in order to remove scales. Wash the hair with a baby shampoo. The olive oil moisturises the scalp so that the scales are removed. If this does not work see a doctor.
A tummy upset
You need some flat cola or lemonade. A toddler will feel weak after a bout of diarrhoea. Give him a lot of fluids to prevent dehydration and then some lemonade or flat cola so that he gets back the lost energy. The salts and sugar lost through diarrhoea are replaced by these drinks.

When symptoms are severe of persist, the wisest thing to do is to see a health professional. Don’t take risks.
