Do Extreme Styles Work For You
With all the fashion styles out there today, defining your own personal style may not be an easy task. With so many trends to choose from – trendy, boho, skater, Lolita, hardcore, goth, emo, vintage, futuristic, girly – how do you know what will work best for you?
What if none of these options are a perfect fit? Should you try to mix and match elements from a couple, or develop your own unique personal style? No two styles are exactly alike and fashion today ranges from plain and ordinary to extreme and unusual.
An example of the latter, goth style, is most common among teenagers. Goths are known for immersing themselves entirely in black, often wearing long leather coats, even during the summer months.
Large platform shoes and body piercings all over the body are a staple of this fashion style. Some even go so far as to paint their face white in an effort to accentuate the black details of their clothing. They are usually adorned with various skulls and other items related to death.
This fashion style is extreme and is becoming more popular among people today. The goal of goth groups is to stand out from the rest of society. And yet no matter how much they may want to be different, they take comfort in surrounding themselves with others who share their cultural views.
Teenagers often attend parties and go to clubs with the same group of individuals, knowing that they will not be shunned by society for expressing themselves so differently.
Occasionally, members of these groups are so extreme that they wind up shunning others that are different from them, even refusing to meet people that do not fit their accepted ideals.
Such extreme situations often create additional problems for these groups, including fear of intolerance, arguments with rivaling groups and even physical violence.
Although these groups claim to be mistreated by society because they are different, they often show the same intolerance to other extreme groups, insisting that their fashion and cultural view is best.
People who choose to express themselves with such extreme styles have to consider whether their desire to be different will lead to additional societal problems in the future.
Intolerance is a major issue and you have to be able to handle the reactions that result from your fashion choices. Extreme styling is not for the weak natured. You are not only choosing a fashion style, you are choosing a lifestyle.
If you are striving for a unique style but are not looking to be so extreme, you can create an individual style that works just for you. Start by choosing a style that best describes who you are as an individual.
Search through your closet and choose the clothing articles that you want to keep and discard anything that isn’t an expression of your identity. When shopping for clothes, ignore what other people are buying.
Developing your own style has nothing to do with what’s trendy in stores. Creating something new and unique can be difficult, and it’s best to ignore what is in fashion at the moment.
In this effort consider items you would never have considered before. Remember, this is your new, personal style, so broaden your horizons and go for something different.
After you make your clothing choices, move on to selecting the appropriate jewelry and accessories. Above all else, remember that only you know who you are inside, and one of the easiest ways to let other know who you are is by developing your own distinct style.
