Disproportionate Breasts?
May 26, 2008
It is considered normal for many women who portray moderate changes in shape of breasts. There are many causes of breast asymmetry, and for many women having slightly different shaped breasts is perfectly normal. Why the difference in size of breasts?
A small difference in the size of the breasts or Asymmetry of the breasts is normal. Some women are born with more breast tissue on one side than the other and, therefore, one breast will be larger and may be more noticeably affected by hormones, pregnancy or weight changes.
What if the difference is too much?
When women with significant asymmetry of the breasts find that this uneven appearance is affecting their self-esteem and is a source of embarrassment or discomfort, the problem can be corrected by plastic surgery.
Can disproportionate breasts be a cause of concern?
Unevenness of breasts could be caused due to certain disturbances in the secretion of hormones. This is also an indicator that the body is not developing in a manner it should, suggesting instability in bodily development.
If your breasts are normally close in size and you notice them becoming asymmetrical it is important to get this change checked out with your doctor. This is all part of being breast aware, meaning knowing how your breasts look and feel so you can report any changes promptly.
In addition, rapid and disproportionate growth of one breast may signify a mass. Women who notice any new changes in their breasts should contact their physician for a checkup.
What if I have disproportionately large breasts?
Disproportionately large breasts can cause neck and shoulder pain as well as back pain. In addition, headaches, breast discomfort and skin irritation are more common. The weight of the breasts pushing down on a bra can result in grooves in the shoulder area. Women with larger breasts tend to exercise less, because of both physical discomfort and not having good choices for exercise clothing.
Breast Reduction, or Reduction Mammoplasty, is the surgical procedure to reduce breast size and weight through the removal of excess breast tissue, fat and skin. The plastic surgeon not only makes the breasts more proportionate to a woman’s figure, but also lifts them.
