Disposing Off Household Waste
July 25, 2008
Waste management is one of the most tiresome chores for most of us who live in the city. Our hectic schedules allow us little time to dispose household garbage hygienically. However, the following tips offer various ways city dwellers can dispose of household waste effectively and by being environmentally friendly.
Composting: Why not compost garden, household and kitchen scraps for garden soil that is rich in nutrients. By composting household waste and using it in your fruit and kitchen garden, you can grow organic, delicious tasting fruits and vegetables that are so popular today, but make a deep hole in your pocket, as well.
Water Bottles: Instead, of buying mineral water from the market and then having to dispose off all those plastic bottles, why not install a water filter at home. But, in case mineral water you must have, then get the large water jars instead of the litre plastic bottles. Sell your plastic bottles to the Kabariwallah for recycling and make some money into the bargain.
Kitchen Spills: Use cotton cloth to wipe kitchen spills, instead of disposable kitchen paper rolls. Economical, as well as, an alternative and environmentally friendly way to reuse old cotton clothing that can be turned into dusters and dish cloths for the kitchen.
Refills: Buy detergents, liquids, salt, etc. in containers that one can re-use with refills.
Batteries: These can be difficult to dispose off, so why not buy rechargeable batteries and a charger, which in the long run will prove much cheaper and easier on your pocket.
Carrier Bags: Avoid coming home with plastic and paper carrier bags. Instead, always carry a sturdy shopping basket or jute bag that you can use to carry your purchases in.
Old Clothes: Give them to charity or sell them to the Kabariwallah as old cloth can be rewoven into new.
Waste Paper: Again, your local Kabariwallah comes to the rescue. Sell him all old newspapers and other papers which can be recycled and turned into paper bags.
Recycle, recycle, recycle should be your mantra for waste management and disposing off household waste products. You will not only be helping save the resources of our wonderful planet, being environmentally friendly, but also helping your bank balance grow!
